San Francisco Receives Prestigious International Award for Gender Equality Work
San Francisco has been selected to receive the Americas Award 2010 in the category of "Promoting Gender Equality and Empowering Women." The Americas Award is a joint initiative of the United Nations, the Organization of American States, and CIFAL Atlanta, with the support of the Carter Center and Metropolis International Institute.
San Francisco was selected for its outstanding work in the advancement of the women and girls, especially the Department's work to eliminate discrimination against women. On behalf of Mayor Gavin Newsom, Dr. Emily Murase, Executive Director of the Department on the Status of Women will be attending the Americas Competitiveness Conference in Atlanta to receive the award from Commerce Secretary Gary Locke on November 15th.
